Geena the Latina of Channel 933 and San Diego Charger Shareece Wright co-hosted an event on Saturday, November 9, for the After School All-Star Program in National City. The program is aimed at kids in underserved communities and encourages them to stay out of trouble by staying active in sports and studies.
South Bay Volkswagen made the event possible by donating jerseys, soccer balls, and water bottles to the 300 kids in the program.
The kids had a pep rally before their games where Shereece and Geena talked to them about the importance of education and athletics. They delivered all the soccer balls in two V-Dubs from South Bay Volkswagen. The kids were excited and grateful. Last year, they didn't even have uniforms.

The 13th Annual Dia de los Muertos festival was held in Oceanside. Radio Latina was a media sponsor and on-site at this cultural community tradition.
Dia de los Muertos is a way for Mexico to honor their dead. There are two specific days of the year that are used to "visit" and pray for those at rest. November 1 is for the innocent children who died early, while November 2 is used to remember adults who also died.
On these days, family and friends of the deceased come to the cemetery to leave flowers, various gifts, food and some of their favorite things when they were alive. The items are mounted on altars as part of worship. They are intended to "guide the soul of the deceased to the time and space it deserves "and help to ease the pain of the living.
The Dia de los Muertos festival encourages the community to experience some of the traditions. The event was the creation of MainStreet Oceanside, Oceanside’s non-profit downtown business association. The event has grown to an attendance of 40,000+ in the last years and is an attraction for visitors locally and regionally.

Other entertainment included a Pet Costume Contest hosted by Jagger & Kristi, performances by The BOX Dance Team, a costume contest for all ages and a parade. There was also a Kid’s Zone where kids enjoyed inflatable jumpers and fun crafts with The Rad Hatter, and, of course, trick-or-treating.

During their recent Membership Drive, San Diego's Jazz 88.3 set a goal of raising $120,000. It was a lofty goal, the highest one they had ever set. But it was a necessary goal in order to move the station closer to meeting requirements set by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. With the help of their listeners, KSDS was able to meet that goal.
KSDS is a full-time Jazz & Blues radio station, 88.3FM in San Diego, streaming free worldwide at jazz88.org. Non-commercial, member-supported public radio.
The KPRI 3rd Annual Block Party was October 19 at Liberty Station in Point Loma. Listeners enjoyed two stages of live music with performances from Michael Franti & Spearhead, Brett Dennen, Serena Ryder, The Boxer Rebellion and Saints of Valory.
Kathy called KSON and told them the story so KSON stepped up to the plate and offered Kathy two premium tickets to the show that night. She was excited to say the least.
The story doesn't there......with the quick thinking of John D'Angelo. John got the package of hose clamps from Kathy then took them to the meet-n-greet and told the band the story. They sent Kathy an apology, a thank you and autographs all on the back of the package of hose clamps!
Kathy's good deed paid off even further when she got to attend the Jason Aldean concert on October 18th.
